Sweet cakes for my sweet tooth! No, not my wedding flowers..but

WOW!!! What a treat I had Friday…Susie of Susie’s Sweets came by my workshop with SAMPLES of her fabulous cakes! OMG….when I say fabulous, I mean it! The cake above is BUTTERCREAM icing…not fondant, just look at the artistry. I tasted cheesecake and strawberry and chocolate with raspberry filling and the “plain white” cake was unbelievably moist and rich tasting….and I hate plain white cake!

Susie Dennison moved to Middle Tennessee just recently to be closer to her daughters. She was a caterer and baker for over 17 years in West Tennessee….and was extremely well known. She had only planned on baking about 2 cakes a month when she moved here, but to “keep up with codes”, she is now building a large commercial kitchen….and lucky for Nashville and Middle Tennessee brides…she is now going into full production mode with her cakes….yeah! Below are some more photos I grabbed from her portfolio.

Wedding flowers in Nashville

The 2009 season is beginning…and I just wanted to give a “toast” to some of the brides from the past! Thank you David Wright Photography for all the great work you do!

Candlelight and Roses at the Hermitage Hotel Nashville

Doesn’t everyone look better in candlelight in Nashville? I love candlelight, and feel no guest table is complete without LOTS of candles (unless it is early afternoon on a bright sunny day). This photo was taken by Scott Douglas,a designer here in Nashville, who was part of the crew for that day… thanks Scott! The bride, Summer Black, was so much fun to work with….she is a professional ballroom dancer and loves the romantic, yet contemporary look for her wedding flowers. Note that at the base of each design are the petals from 2 dozen roses! She chose to have her ceremony and reception at Nashville’s Hermitage Hotel and our job was to combine the elegance of the hotel with the contemporary tastes of the bride. Can’t wait to see her photos from the wedding….her bouquet was rather unique…..30 stems of white dendrobium orchids!

Sometimes Nashville brides and hostesses come to me and say “I just want candles” on the table, thinking that this might save them money. Granted a couple of candles and nothing else might do just that….but look at the difference having 7 pieces of glass with massed rose petals does for the table and the look. SO, this look does cost as much as some centerpieces….but well worth it!
